Resize to a 30×40 mm ID photo

How it works

1. Drop the portrait onto the box, or choose it from your phone. A photo taken against a plain light wall works best.
2. Fill and crop is preselected. The photo is scaled until the 3:4 frame is covered, then cropped around the centre, so hold the camera so your face is already centred.
3. Press Resize to 30×40 mm. The output is exactly 354 × 472 pixels, which is 30 × 40 mm printed at 300 dpi.
4. Download it. Print it on photo paper at 300 dpi, or attach it to the online form as it is.

Frequently asked questions

Why 354 × 472 pixels?

30 mm ÷ 25.4 × 300 = 354 and 40 mm ÷ 25.4 × 300 = 472. That is the 3×4 cm format at 300 dpi, the resolution print shops and government upload forms expect.

Which documents use 3×4 cm?

Japanese and Korean résumés and student cards, Brazilian RG, CNH and carteira de trabalho, and school and employer forms in several other countries. Passports are usually 35×45 mm instead: use the 35×45 mm preset for those.

Does the file say 300 dpi?

The pixel count is what matters, and it is exact. Browsers do not write a dpi tag into the file, so a print shop may show it as 72 dpi. Tell them to print it at 30 × 40 mm and the result is correct.

How much of my face should fill the frame?

Most rules put the head at roughly three quarters of the height with a small gap above it. Crop with that in mind before uploading, because this tool crops around the centre rather than detecting your face.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
