This tool runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and you can even turn off your internet connection before you start.

How it works

  1. Drop any files onto the box, or pick them from your device. Photos, PDFs, documents, anything goes. Drag them into the order you want them numbered.
  2. Type a pattern. {name} is the original name without extension, {n} is the sequence number, {ext} is the extension, {date} is today's date. For example holiday-{n} gives holiday-01, holiday-02 and so on.
  3. Set the start number and the number of digits used for padding. 3 digits turns 7 into 007, which keeps files sorted correctly in any file manager.
  4. Press Rename files and download the renamed set as a ZIP, or each file separately.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded?
No. Renaming only changes the file name in the download; the contents are copied byte for byte inside your browser and never leave your device.
Does renaming change the file contents?
No. The data is untouched, so photos keep their EXIF metadata and documents stay identical. Only the name is different.
Which placeholders can I use?
{name} for the original name, {n} for the counter, {ext} for the extension and {date} for today's date in YYYY-MM-DD form. The extension is kept automatically, so you do not need to type it.
What does the letter case option do?
It converts the whole resulting name, including the extension, to lowercase or UPPERCASE. Lowercase names avoid problems on case-sensitive web servers.
What are the free limits?
The free plan allows 3 files per run, 20 MB per file and 10 runs per day. Pro removes these limits.
